This was one of our largest ever projects of which we were extremely proud to have been a part of. Connolly Scaffolding was honoured to have been selected to provide scaffolding for the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme, MATP.
The £1bn investment in the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme saw an enhancement and expansion of facilities positioning Manchester Airport as the global gateway for the North of England to create the new “super terminal”.
Over 2,500 workers participated in this project.
The Transformation Programme saw the reconfiguration and redevelopment of Terminal 2, which was extended by over 150%, and now includes a New International Departure Lounge with 50 food, beverage and retail outlets.
As the largest contract awarded by Manchester Airports Group, we were working alongside Laing O’Rourke over a period of five years. Together with Laing O’Rourke, we worked closely with the Manchester Airport team to ensure that the airport remained fully operational throughout the works.
The NASC 2020 Yearbook also featured our page and advertised the T2 project as a testament to our services and skill.
We were delighted to have been awarded the Highly Commended award for our T2 redevelopment in the Project of the Year category at the 2019 NASC Annual Ball.
Connolly Scaffolding Ltd contributed a wealth of planning experience and had a team of highly-trained professionals who used a mix of traditional tube and fitting and Plettac Metrix to achieve the access required safely, on time, and on budget. We installed multiple access towers to the T2 extension for access to the roof and other levels.
Statistics show that Manchester is the 4th largest airport in the UK (based on total passenger traffic) in 2021. The airport is preceded by 3 London airports (Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick) and is followed by London Luton in 5th place. Manchester Airport has since welcomed their first passengers to its Terminal 2 extension.
