As a Grade II listed Georgian mill was originally built by the self-taught Leeds architect, David Bellhouse in 1823 for cotton spinning.
Islington Mill is undergoing a complete transformation, full weatherproofing and implementation of an external elevator to all floors.
The heritage building will be revealed following continued extensive restoration.
Created in 2000, the Mill currently operates as an independent arts venue under the name Islington Mill Arts Club.
The ever-evolving creative space, arts hub and corresponding sense of community remains a work in progress.
Scratch the surface and you will find a vibrant and resourceful cross-disciplinary creative network — a space where conversations leads to connections, collaboration and co-creation. Public arts programmes, residencies and galleries sit alongside rehearsal space, whilst music and visual arts mix with events and exhibitions.
More than 50 businesses and 100 artists call the Mill home.
Over the last 15 years we’ve supported more than 5000 artists from 35 countries. More than 15,000 people visit the building every year; some stay for an evening, some make it their home for several years.
We have provided a full scaffold to facilitate these essential changes.
Check out the designs created by the community which were then displayed on the cladding.
